Qué???… Un hombre embarazado???

La imagen de Arnold Schwarzenegger con una gran panza de “embarazado” en la película Junior despertó polémica. Ayer, se conoció la historia de un nuevo “hombre” que revivirá el film, pero en la vida real.

El protagonista de esta polémica historia es Thomas Beatie, conocido de esta manera legalmente, pero en realidad nació mujer.

Thomas no estaba contento siendo mujer, como había nacido, por eso se hizo reducir los pechos y se dio muchas inyecciones de testosterona para conseguir la apariencia masculina. Sin embargo, Thomas conservó sus “órganos sexuales femeninos”.

Hace diez años, Thomas se casó con Nancy. El deseo de tener un hijo abordó a la pareja, pero el problema es que Nancy es estéril. Con el objetivo planteado, el “hombre” decidió someterse a un tratamiento hormonal.

Thomas está embarazado de cinco meses, luego de que se le realizara una inseminación artificial, y está esperando una nena.

When his wife, Nancy, was unable to have children, Thomas, who still has female genitalia, decided he’d carry their baby himself. And thus became the world’s first pregnant man. A process which, unsurprisingly, hasn’t been too easy.

In this world where sci-fi becomes reality I’m not surprised to finally see a man carrying a baby. Granted it’s not the traditionally the way I thought it would come about, ala Arnold in Junior, but still a wondrous feat none the less.

Some might say that this isn’t anything new seeing how Thomas started out as a woman. But the question on my mind is why would someone who spent so much time and money going through the process of gender reassignment still hold on to the defining difference of the two sexes?
